Some of the Music you'll hear
Written and recorded by Paul Leka, Gary DeCarlo and
Dale Frashuer, attributed to a then-fictitious band they
named "Steam". It was released under the Mercury
subsidiary label Fontana and became a number one pop single on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1969, and remained on the charts in early 1970.
I THINK WE’RE ALONE NOW –
TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS
DAY AFTER DAY –
BADFINGER
A pop song written and sung by folk music singer Melanie
Melanie Safka-Schekeryk), which became a novelty success during 1971-72. Initially part of Melanie's album Gather Me, it was known also as "The Rollerskate Song" due to its chorus.
It was her greatest success, scoring No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart during December 1971 and January 1972.
Written by Ritchie Cordell. It was initially a 1967 hit for
Tommy James and the Shondells, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 during a 17-week stay.
Written and sung by Pete Ham and produced by
George Harrison, who plays some of the slide guitar parts of the song
along with Ham. The record also features Leon Russell on piano.
As the song was unfinished at the time Harrison left the Badfinger
album to produce the Concert for Bangladesh, the final mix was done by Todd Rundgren, who took over their 1971 album, Straight Up after Harrison's departure.
From Jefferson Airplane's 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow. The first album Slick recorded with Jefferson Airplane, she provided two songs from her previous group: her own “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love”, written by her brother-in-law Darby Slick and recorded by The Great Society. Both songs became breakout successes for Jefferson Airplane and have ever since been associated with that band.It was released as a single and became the band's second top ten success, peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
WHITE RABBIT –
Jefferson Airplane
Written by John Lennon(credited to Lennon–McCartney)while on holiday in Spain. Billy J. Kramer with The Dakotas released their recording of the song in 1963 and it became their first number 1 in the UK Singles Chart. Paul McCartney was present during the recording session at Abbey Road Studios. The single would be released in the US the following year, and become a top-ten hit there, reaching number 9. It became one of the first occasions a Lennon–McCartney composition made the US Top 40 recorded by an artist other than the Beatles (the first being "A World Without Love"
by Peter & Gordon).
A song written by Mitch Murray and Peter Callander issued as a single by the UK-based band, Vanity Fare in late 1969.
It reached #16 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1970, but was a bigger hit in the United States, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1970.Billboard ranked the record as the No. 14 song of 1970.
RAIN DROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD –
BJ THOMAS
Written by Hal Davidand Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. David and Bacharach also won Best Original Score. It was recorded in seven takes, after Bacharach expressed dissatisfaction with the first six. In the film version of the song, B. J. Thomas had been recovering from laryngitis, which made his voice sound hoarser than in the 7-inch release. The film version featured a separate instrumental break when Paul Newman undertook stunts on a bicycle.
"To Sir With Love" is the theme from the 1967 film To Sir, with Love. The song was written by Don Blackand Mark London, husband of Lulu's longtime manager Marion Massey. Initially recorded by Lulu (with The Mindbenders, who also acted in the film). It was released as a single in the United States in 1967 and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top position for five weeks and earning the No. 1 position for the entire year in the process.
"Candida" was the first single released by the American pop music group Dawn, with vocals by Tony Orlando, in July 1970. The song, written by Irwin Levine and Toni Wine, was produced by Dave Appell and Hank Medress for Bell Records. Orlando had been a professional singer in the early 1960s, but now worked as a music publishing manager for Columbia Records. Although initially worried about losing his job at Columbia, Orlando eventually agreed to lend his voice to the track.
"Candida" became a worldwide hit, reaching number one in five countries, and the top ten in many others.
DO-WAH-DIDDY –
